College Grants for Natural and Formal Sciences

Natural Sciences are considered to be very valuable by most people, so are Formal Sciences. Although other fields have come close to them in importance, these two still keep their spot. Therefore, students currently studying, or willing to study in an area that falls under Natural or Formal Sciences can easily find many grants and scholarships. Some examples of fields under these categories are Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Astronomy; Mathematics and Statistics. Here are some examples to the scholarship and grants given in these fields that might give you an idea about others as well.

The National Science Foundation is a helpful source both for Natural and Formal Science students for financial aid. The foundation offers Graduate Research Fellowships in the fields of mathematics, computer science, engineering, physics and chemistry. This scheme is primarily merit-based.

Graduate students can also benefit from the National Defense Science and Engineering Graduates Fellowship Program. This program is generated by the U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force. There are fifteen disciplines that the program supports, some of which are Cognitive, Neural, and Behavioral Sciences; Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering; and Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering. Senior undergraduate students are also encouraged to apply if they are U.S. citizens.

The American Chemical Society is a useful institution for chemistry students seeking financial aid. The society offers scholarship programs especially to students with minority origins at undergraduate level. With its programs, the society is seeking to encourage the discipline of Chemistry.

Students studying Biology are offered a variety of scholarship and grants as well. The United States Environmental Protection Agency provides many opportunities to students seeking a career in Environmental Biology, some of which are Community Action for a Renewed Environment (CARE), Environmental Information Exchange Network, National Clean Diesel Campaign, and Pollution Prevention. Biology students should also be interested in George A. Hall / Harold F. Mayfield Award offered by the University Of Michigan Museum Of Zoology. One award of $1,000 is given to a student studying either Biology or Veterinary Sciences.

An astronomy student can also find many scholarships. For instance, the Lucas Scholarships are awarded to undergraduate students whose major is Astronomy. To be eligible, the student has to be attending either San Diego State University or the University of Arizona on a full-time basis. An award of up to $6,000 is available if the applicant submits an essay about his or her career plans in astronomy. High school seniors with an interest in Astronomy can also find scholarships. An example is Back Bay Amateur Astronomers Scholarship, which is awarded to seniors planning to continue their education in the upcoming academic year. Applicants must be residing in the Virginia Beach area to be eligible to apply for a $750 award.
